Zegerid (Omeprazole and sodium bicarbonate)

  • Omeprazole and sodium bicarbonate is available in a capsule and as a powder for oral suspension. The strengths are 20 mg and 40 mg. Follow the instructions on the prescription label. Dosing for the short-term treatment of an active duodenal ulcer: 20 mg by mouth once daily for 4 weeks Dosing for the short-term treatment of an active benign gastric ulcer: 40 mg by mouth once daily for 4 to 8 weeks Dosing for GERD (no erosive esophagitis): 20 mg by mouth once daily for up to 4 weeks Dosing for GERD (erosive esophagitis): 20 mg by mouth once daily for 4 to 8 weeks Dosing to maintain the healing of erosive esophagitis: 20 mg by mouth once daily Dosing to reduce the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in patients who are critically ill (40 mg oral suspension only): 40 mg by mouth to start, then 40 mg by mouth 6 to 8 hours later and 40 mg by mouth once daily thereafter for 2 weeks
