Ultimed Needles
Ultimed pen needles are used for the administration of insulin. Insulin can treat highblood sugarin people with type 1 diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Insulin cannot be given by mouth because enzymes in the digestive tract will break it down, so it must be given by injection. When using insulin pens, pen needles are needed to inject the medication. Ultimed pen needles come in different sizes and lengths for injection into subcutaneous tissue. Subcutaneous tissue is the layer of fat between the skin and the muscle cells. Insulin is injected into this tissue and then slowly releases into the bloodstream. Ultimed pen needles will fit most types of insulin pens.

  • Your healthcare provider or pharmacist should provide instructions when using pen needles for the first time. To use Ultimed pen needles, attach one pen needle to the end of the insulin pen. You may need to prime the pen if using it for the first time. Inject insulin into thesubcutaneoustissue at a 90-degree angle using the dose determined by your doctor. Leave the needle in the skin for approximately five seconds after injecting. Insulin is typically injected into the abdomen, but other sites include the legs and the back of the arms.
