SOVALDI (sofosbuvir) is a medication prescribed to treat chronic hepatitis C (HCV) infection. SOVALDI is prescribed as part of a treatment regimen and may be prescribed in combination with ribavirin or PEG-interferon alfa. The hepatitis C virus is made up of a small amount of genetic material in a protein capsule. The virus uses different proteins to replicate itself, including NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Sofosbuvir stops the action of this protein, preventing the replication of HCV.
