RELPAX (Eletriptan) is a medication prescribed to treat an acutemigraineheadache with or without aura in adults. An aurais a complex of symptoms that precede a migraine headache and may include flashing lights, blind spots, or changes in the visual field. RELPAX (Eletriptan) works by agonizing serotonin receptors in the brain. Migraines occur because blood vessels in the cranium relax (vasodilate), and release chemical signals that increase the sensation of pain. By binding to serotonin receptors, RELPAX (Eletriptan) contracts these same blood vessels and prevents the release of chemical signals that cause pain.
