Pred Forte 1% Eye Drops (Prednisolone acetate)

The active ingredient in each mL of Pred Forte is prednisolone acetate 1%. Prednisolone acetate is aglucocorticoid.

Once you are prescribed and buy Pred Forte, and before you start using Pred Forte, tell your doctor about all medications you are taking. This includes prescriptions, over-the-counter, herbal supplements, and vitamins. Pred Forte may interact with some medications. Sodium bisulfite is found in Pred Forte and can cause a potentially severe allergic reaction in people who aresensitive to sulfite. If Pred Forte is used for a long time, posterior subcapsular cataracts may form and increase intraocular pressure. This may lead toglaucomawith optic nerve damage and vision problems. Long-term use may also weaken the immune system, increasing the risk for secondary eye infections. If you will be using Pred Forte eye drops for 10 days or longer, get your intraocular pressure monitored regularly. If you have glaucoma, you should be careful when using steroids and get your intraocular pressure frequently checked. Prolonged use of corticosteroid eye drops can cause corneal and scleral thinning. If you have a thin cornea or scleral tissue, the use of corticosteroid eye drops may cause perforation. Corticosteroid eye drops may mask or worsen acute purulent eye infections. Healing can take longer or blebs may form if you use steroids after cataract surgery. Tell your doctor if you have ever had herpes simplex. Using steroid eye drops may lengthen the course of and worsen viral eye infections such as herpes simplex. Tell your doctor if you still have eye pain or inflammation after 48 hours. Be careful not to touch the bottle tip to the eyelids or any other surface as this can cause an eye infection or injury. Do not share the bottle. Pred Forte containsbenzalkonium chloridethat can be absorbed by soft contact lenses. Be sure to remove your contact lenses before placing the drops into your eye(s). You may put your contacts in 15 minutes after you place the drops. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Pred Forte should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Pred Forte may pose a risk for adverse effects in nursing infants. The decision to stop breastfeeding or to stop using Pred Forte should be made, considering the importance of Pred Forte to the mother.

Pred Forte, like all medications, can have side effects. If you experience any adverse effects while using Pred Forte, be sure to tell your doctor. Pred Forte side effects may include: Allergic reactions, Altered taste, Eye pain, Feeling like something is in your eye, Headache, Itching, Rash, Burning and/or stinging after instilling the drops, Hives, Blurry vision
