Glucovance (Glyburide/Metformin)

GLUCOVANCE is a combination antidiabetic tablet. It contains the active ingredients metformin and glyburide. Metformin works by lowering the amount of glucose produced by the liver, reducing the amount absorbed during meals, and by making the body more sensitive to insulin. Glyburide works by stimulating the pancreas to release additional insulin. Lactic acidosis is a rare and serious side effect of metformin. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to review the symptoms of lactic acidosis. Glyburide can increase the incidence of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Do not skip a meal after taking GLUCOVANCE. The incidence of hemolytic anemia is higher in patients with a history of G6PD deficiency.
