BONIVA (Ibandronate) is a prescription medication prescribed to treat and prevent postmenopausalosteoporosis. BONIVA works by binding to hydroxyapatite, a mineral that is part of the bone matrix. By binding to the bone, BONIVA prevents the normal breakdown of bone by inhibiting bone turnover. It also directly strengthens bone by incorporating it into the matrix.
