Anusol is a non-prescription treatment for external hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can be present internally in the lower rectum or externally on and around the anus. Hemorrhoids are commonly experienced by adults and older adults. Hemorrhoids are caused by swollen veins in the rectum or anus. The swollen veins may cause symptoms like redness, swelling, irritation, pain, itching, and burning. They are caused by straining during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids are more common in obese and pregnant individuals. Anusol contains a topical steroid called hydrocortisone. Corticosteroids work by reducing the inflammation response and reducing swelling, redness, pain, and itching. It may take several days to weeks for this medication to start working.
Anusol HC Ointment (Hydrocortisone / Zinc Sulfate)
- Apply Anusol to the affected area two to four times a day until the area is healed. Talk to your doctor if the area does not improve after two weeks. Anusol is for external use only.
