Altace HCT contains two medications-ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide-for the treatment of high blood pressure. Rampiril is classified as an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and works by dilating the blood vessels, which reduces blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is classified as a thiazide diuretic, or water pill, that causes the kidneys to get rid of excess water and salt through urination. Although Altace HCT is used to treat high blood pressure, it should not be the first choice. Available only with a valid prescription, Altace HCT comes in oral tablets of the following strengths: 2.5 mg ramipril/12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide, 5 mg ramipril/12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide, 5 mg ramipril/25 mg hydrochlorothiazide, 10 mg ramipril/12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide, 10 mg ramipril/25 mg hydrochlorothiazide The Altace HCT generic is ramipril/hydrochlorothiazide.
